MARRIAGE LICENSE
(per Texas Family Code Section 2.002)
1. EACH person applying for a license must appear before the County Clerk
2. Bring proof of identity and age (Section 2.005 b) Typically a current Driver's License and Social Security Card.
If a Foreign Birth Certificate is used, it must be a certified copy and have a certified translation to English attached.
3. Provide the information applicable for each applicant on the Marriage License application.
4. Mark all appropriate boxes, answer all questions truthfully, and sign the application before the County Clerk.
- There is a 72 hour waiting period after you receive your Marriage License. Per Texas Family Code 2.204 a Marriage Ceremony may not take place during the 72 hour period immediately following the issuance of the Marriage License. This waiting period does not apply to a member of the armed forces of the United States and on active duty; Department of Defense; if a written waiver from the Judge is obtained.
- After your wedding ceremony, your Marriage License must be returned to the Clerk's office for recording purposes.
- If a Marriage Ceremony has not been conducted before the 90th day after the date the license is issued, the Marriage License will be expired.
